DOM FAMULARO'S CANADIAN CLINIC TOUR
Dom Famularo, a true drumming legend and world-renowned teacher,
rocked Montreal from the Theatre Plaza on April 23rd, 26. It was the first
stop of his East Canadian clinic tour, and the venue was exploding with energy.
Before starting the clinic, Dom walked through the audience to shake hands
and sign autographs. "I do not need to meditate in a quiet room backstage
before a performance," Dom proclaimed. "I am there for the audience,
and I need to know them before I go onstage!"
Dom began the clinic with a highly motivational speech, describing
the journey musicians must make to effectively express their thoughts an ideas.
Topics ranged from technique, history, to his personal experiences from around
the globe. Dom then proceeded to blow the crowd away with an impeccable performance
and even invited audience members to sit on stage around his Cherry Red Mapex
Saturn kit while he demonstrated various fills and techniques.
"It's such a pleasure to have Dom back in Canada, "stated
Sami Kizilbash, Mapex Product Manager at SF Marketing. "He makes a very
real connection with his audience, and he's among the most energetic and talented
drummers in the industry."
The venue proved to be an excellent setting or the drum clinic,
and ironically, Theatre Plaza is where one can find another Mapex endorsee,
Tony Albino, performing every weekend on the hit Télé-Québec
variety show, Belle et Bum.
The Canadian clinic tour was organized by Sabian and also supported
by Mapex, Vic Firth, and Remo. Dom Famularo held clinics in Montreal (with
Groupe Archambault), Quebec City (with Musique Richard Gendreau), Rimouski
(with Musique Métronomie), and Halifax (with Buckley's Music), before
leading the grand-finale at the Cape Brenton Drum Festival. Dom was polled
as the "#1 Clinician of the year" by Modern Drummer and Drum! Magazine
readers. Dom will be returning to Montreal in November for the annual Montreal
Drum Fest, and will be performing alongside legendary Billy Joel drummer, Liberty
DeVitto.
