Alfredo Golino

Alfredo Golino is a Neapolitan by birth and musical background. Naples can be considered the cradle of Italian rhythmical nature and its significant musical tradition has given birth to many talented artists such as Alfredo. Under the guide of his father and teacher Antonio Golino, Alfredo’s career had a very early start. By the age of only 17 he had already played at the NATO base where all the important American artists performed and had played for various productions for the Italian Radio & Television Corporation (RAI) in Naples. He was eventually hired into the RAI orchestra where directors and maestros who were fundamental to history of Italian music made the most of his talent.

After, Alfredo participated in a series of collaborations that that brought him into the limelight as one one of the most important Italian musicians. At the age of 18 Alfredo left Naples for Rome to work with Armando Trovaioli who involved him in all his films and recording productions for RAI. While in Rome, he was noticed by people in the record industry and began to collaborate with RCA and RAI, where he was hired for a long series of productions and concerts.

In 1980 he won a competition to enter the RAI orchestra in Milan. Settling in Milan, Alfredo gained immediate recognition as a valuable and versatile musician. Besides being engaged with TV programs and concerts with the biggest international directors and jazz musicians, he also took part in jazz groups that placed him among the most appreciated European jazz players. At the same time he started his long and important career in the record industry, participating in the most successful Italian records, either as a co-producer and a co-arranger.

In 1989 he quit RAI, freeing his time for more European collaborations. Alfredo was on tour with numerous artists and international jazz and fusion groups, consecrating him as an internationally famed musician and leading to various collaborations with the worldwide-known instruments makers.

In 1990 Alfredo formed a group called Giulia Combo with his wife Giulia Fasolino, Matteo Fasolino, Charlie Cinelli and Gogo Ghidelli. They issued a record that obtained recognition from critics and the public but disbanded after two years. After two years the group broke up. In 1994 the group “ORO” won the Sanremo Giovani finals and took Alfredo to Sanremo and a two-year tour around Italy. In 1996 Alfredo left the group and collaborated again with Giulia Fasolino, Charlie Cinelli and Gogo Ghidelli, founding Cambiomusica, a school and publishing company for well-known Italian and foreign artist such as Mina, Celentano, Renato Zero and Monica Naranjo. Cambiomusica also supported the new talent that successfully entered the Italian recording industry and the live jazz music scene, including: 883, Raf, De Gregori, Antonella Ruggero, Eugenio Finardi, Fiorello, Gianluca Grignani, Elisa and Ciffarelli.

A significant event in Alfredo’s career was his collaboration with Eros Ramazzotti. He took part in Eros’ records and two of his most successful worldwide tours. Also, his work with Mina represented a turning point in Alfredo’s career. As a musician, publisher and arranger he developed a good working relationship with Mina’s producer, arranger and son, Massimiliano Pani. Together with his wife Giulia, Alfredo has worked on numerous Italian and international productions. Recently, Alfredo and Giulia teamed up with Bruno Zucchetti to produce the latest album of the famous Spanish artist, Monica Naranjo. This production trio is currently collaborating with major international recording artists.

Alfredo Golino has received several awards, such as Telegatto as best musician, two golden records as producer, arranger and artist, and even a Grammy award in 2001 as a musician for his work with Alejandro Sanz, a Spanish artist who has sold over 10 million records worldwide.

Alfredo Golino is a multi-faceted artist who, thanks to his talent and professionalism, always gives his best to music. He always approaches music with an open mind, knowledge, humility and curiosity. This attitude has won him the respect and admiration of all who have worked with him. His talent and enthusiasm make him an excellent teacher who is able to pass on his vast experience to younger musicians, helping them to face their future, both emotionally and technically.
