Memphis la Blusera
Marcelo began playing drums when he was eleven years
old. Since then he’s done a lot of sessions work in his professional
career. In 1981 he recorded the first LP of the "Preludio" band
with them. Before 1986 he played in some groups that were not as
well known. In that year he joined "El 60", a band that
includes some if Argentina’s legendary rock musicians.
In 1988 Marcelo recorded with "Clark Kent" for
their debut album and in 1989 joined the successful Latin rock
band "Los Guarros", recording four CDs. "Los guarros" supported "Prince", "The
Cult", "Brian May", "Joe Coker" and "Guns
n´ Roses" during their respectives visits to Argentina.
In 1993 Marcelo played with Rudy Sarzo (former bassist
for Whitesnake and Quiet Riot) when he visited Argentina. Later
in 1994 he was one of the four Argentine drummers who played in
the first Zildjian Day in Buenos Aires with Dennis Chambers, Will
Calhoum, and Alex Acuña. Marcelo was considered the revelation
of the event. That same year he occupied the drum throne in a female
blues band: "Las Blacanblus".
In 1995 his first drum book was released under the
title: " Batería desde el primer día".
(Drums since first day). In 1996 he recorded the second album for "Las
Blacanblus", called "Rituales", and the same year
he also performed on the come-back album of "Los Guarros" titled: "Pampas
Lisergicas". During 1997 his first video-clinic was released,
named "Marcelo Mira in class", and later Marcelo recorded
the third CD with "Las Blacanblus", named "Especial
en vivo". This album was recorded live in the Broadway theatre
in Buenos Aires.
In 1998 Marcelo was called to join the multi-platinum
blues band: "Memphis la Blusera", the most popular blues
band in Argentina, recording their CD: "Hoy es hoy".
He also recorded Javier Calamaro’s debut album: "Diez
de corazones". In his spare time, Marcelo's managed to write
some columns in several music magazines. He also recorded some
tracks for "Cuatro vientos", a band formed by saxs and
for "Beto Solas", a folklorist singer. In 1999 he recorded
the live CD: "El acústico" with Memphis la Blusera.
That same year his second drum book was released, entitled: "10
recetas magistrales".
In 2000 he played with Memphis in the Second Argentine
Festival in Miami and did a lot of gigs touring Argentina. In 2001
he recorded a new CD with Memphis, la Blusera: "Angelitos
culones", and later in 2002 they were the first Argentine
band that played at the Colon theatre with the National Symphonic
Orchestra. The concert was recorded, and the album was released
later. That same year they celebrated their 25 anniversary with
a concert at the legendary Luna Park arena. That concert was also
recorded.
In 2003 the CD of Memphis la Blusera and the National
Symphonic Orchestra at the Colon theatre was finally edited and
released. That same year he played with Gregg Bissonette at the
Astral theatre in Buenos Aires. In 2004 the CD 25 anniversary of
Memphis la blusera was released, that cd was recorded live at the
Luna Park arena. In June 2005 Marcelo shared a clinic with intenational
drummer Marco Minnemann.
Marcelo is a well known teacher too, and he has his
own own drum school in Buenos Aires. He is a Zildjian, Pro-Mark,
and Remo international endorser and a Mapex local endorser.
